Perinatal Therapy Approach

Perinatal therapy requires flexibility — there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Individual client goals vary, and your needs may change from session to session. I’m a very adaptable and responsive clinician — I want to hear what’s working for you (and what’s not) and adjust as needed.

The foundation of therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. I like to build strong connections with my clients, which fosters collaboration. Therapy works best when you’re invested!

In that same vein, I also try to incorporate your interests into our work when it feels helpful. Love to read? We can read a therapeutic book together for homework between sessions. Interested in research? Let’s discuss the latest studies on attachment or maternal mental health. Therapy can be hard work, but I want the process to be engaging and relevant to you.

Therapeutic Modalities

I draw from a variety of evidence-based modalities for an eclectic, individualized approach. These include:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT): Helps you understand attachment and strengthen emotional connection to others, especially during times of change

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Focuses on managing difficult thoughts and emotions while helping you stay connected to your values

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Provides coping skills for managing anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and mood changes

  • Bowen Family Systems Theory: Explores how family dynamics and past relationships shape your current experiences and responses

  • Motivational Interviewing: Supports you in making meaningful changes at your own pace, especially when feeling stuck or uncertain

  • Strengths-Based Approach: Focuses on identifying and building on your existing strengths, resilience, and resources
